From beside the railroad tracks at Bathurst and Dupont, Tarragon is Canada’s Neighbourhood Theatre, dedicated to the development of new work by Canadian Artists. After nearly two years of closures to the public, Tarragon reopened to welcome audiences in March 2022. This June, we are hosting our biggest celebration yet: a belated Birthday Bash to celebrate 50 years of Tarragon, and the work that took place throughout these unprecedented times from across the Zoom screen. We toast the resilience of artists, volunteers, community, and audiences, and look ahead to the bright future of live theatre.

Founded in 1970, Tarragon Theatre creates, develops and produces new Canadian theatre that reflects and illuminates the diversity and complexity of the contemporary human experience. For 50 years, we have created award-winning Canadian classics, provided creative capacity to artists across Canada, and helped shape the cultural landscape of our country’s theatre.

Tarragon is equally a hub for creation and development as it is a production company, with the ultimate goal of creating a meaningful experience for our artists to thrive and bridge their ideas from concept to realization. We have premiered nearly 200 new works, and workshopped over 500. We produce seven to nine plays each season, seen by over 35,000 audience members.
