Northern Lights Council, Scouting America
The Northern Lights Council, Scouting America is a youth development organization dedicated to helping young people build character, leadership skills, citizenship, and personal fitness through the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Headquartered at the Jon L. Wanzek Center for Scouting in Fargo, North Dakota, the council serves youth and families throughout North Dakota, northwest Minnesota, and portions of neighboring states.
Through its programs, the Northern Lights Council provides opportunities for young people to develop confidence, responsibility, and outdoor skills while participating in activities ranging from camping and hiking to community service and leadership development. The council supports a variety of Scouting programs, including Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Exploring, offering age-appropriate experiences for youth from kindergarten through young adulthood.
The council operates camps, training events, and year-round activities that promote teamwork, adventure, and personal growth. Signature experiences include outdoor camping programs, summer camps, leadership training, advancement opportunities, and service projects that help youth become engaged and responsible members of their communities.
Mission
The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lives by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. The Northern Lights Council fulfills this mission by providing safe, inclusive, and educational programs led by trained volunteers and professional staff.
