San Cap Kiwanis Auction

The annual San Cap Kiwanis Auction is in its fifth decade of raising funds to benefit the youth of Sanibel & Captiva. All funds raised by the event are put to work in the local community by the Kiwanis Foundation.

Proceeds from the auction make possible the Kiwanis Scholarship Program, which awards scholarships to local students attending post-secondary colleges, universities and technical schools. In 2020, this program awarded over $60,000 in scholarships. In addition, the Club uses proceeds from the event to provide grants to other local non-profits whose programs benefit youth education, recreation and well-being.

In 2021, the Spaghetti Dinner which usually accompanies the Auction will not be held due to COVID-19. However, the Auction WILL be held as an online silent auction. Those participating in this unique online event will have the satisfaction of knowing they are helping an important cause -- the development of our next generation of young people!

About Kiwanis Club of Sanibel-Captiva Islands

Since its founding in 1973, the Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club and its non-profit Foundation have been giving back to our Island community. The San-Cap Kiwanis mission is serving the needs of our local youth. THE MONEY WE RAISE HERE STAYS HERE TO SUPPORT OUR ISLAND YOUNG PEOPLE.

Each year the Club and 501(c)(3) Foundation set a charitable budget of approximately $150,000, 97% of which goes toward scholarships and grants for organizations that benefit children, with the remainder going to other island non-profits. In 2020, we gave over $60,000 in scholarships to students enrolled in colleges/technical schools who are residents or have an island connection through the employment of their parents. In addition we make grants to other non-profits that support youth education, recreation and well-being.

Past recipients of Kiwanis grants have included: The Sanibel School computer Success Maker program, Sanibel Public Library Children’s programs, Sanibel Recreation Center scholarships, BIG Arts and Herb Strauss Summer Programs, Sanibel Youth Sports, Friends Who Care, F.I.S.H. of SanCap children’s programs, Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum children’s programs and the Golisano Children’s Hospital of SW Florida to name a few.
