About Our Auction

The online auction will go until 1pm on Saturday September 20, 2025. Then it will transition to an in person auction for the concert. The auction will end at the end of the performance. After that winning bids will be updated online.

If you are not able to make the concert, you may enter a proxy bid. Your bids will be added to the in person bid sheets at the correct intervals until your maximum.

Helping our neighbors in need!

SPAN's mission is to provide food and/or financial assistance to qualified individuals facing an emergency situation - a utility turn-off, court-ordered eviction, or with medical bills or prescriptions.

The need for emergency financial assistance has been especially high, recent years, since the pandemic ended. Typically SPAN has provided around $100,000 in financial assistance a year. The last couple of years, based on the need, has been a lot higher.

In Anne Arundel County 6% of the population is at the federal poverty level and 24% are in the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained Employed) category. Even though many of these individuals are employed, it is still difficult for them to pay their monthly bills. A trip to the emergency room or a job loss can push them over the edge. They are forced to make tough choices between things such as paying for rent and/or utilities, quality child care and food. These choices can have long term consequences.

This fundraiser will be a huge help in helping us help more people!

Join us for the Broadway Songfest Concert, created and performed by Laurette Hankins-O'Connell and pianist/duet singer Anita O'Conner. It is on Saturday September 20th at 5pm at St Martins in-the-Field Parish Hall. For tickets to the Concert go to our website:
https://www.spanhelps.org/broadway_songfest

The proceeds from this Concert and this auction will go a long way to help us help our neighbors in need.

A HUGE thank you to all the local businesses and our volunteers who donated items and time to make this event possible!

About SPAN, Inc

SPAN's mission is to provide food and/or financial assistance to qualified individuals facing an emergency situation - a utility turn-off, court-ordered eviction, or with medical bills or prescriptions.

SPAN was established over thirty years ago, in 1990. This year we have been celebrating 35 years of helping more than 100,000 people! Together we are helping our neighbors in need.

Last year alone, SPAN helped close to 4,000 people in this area (over 1,500 were children). Total financial and food disbursements provided by SPAN in FY25 totaled over $333,500.

The individuals SPAN helps are all around us, and we may not always be aware of it. Some of SPAN's clients are neighbors who have lived in this community for many decades. Some of our clients are living on fixed incomes, and the food is helpful, especially with the increased cost in food prices. Some clients are going through a temporary crisis, such as a loss of a job or health issue. We have clients who are active in their job search processes but have depleted their savings during rounds of interviews. We have helped several single parents who are getting resituated after going through a divorce.

Sometimes we help clients who are facing a multitude of hurdles. SPAN helped a woman who was five months behind on her rent and facing eviction. She was employed but had been unable to work for several months when she was in the hospital fighting cancer. While trying to make sure she didn't lose her home, she was awaiting more test results. She was facing this battle alone with no family in the area. SPAN was able to provide emergency financial assistance for rent so that she didn't lose her home.
