Secret Postcard Auction 2025

The RWA Secret Postcard Auction, held annually, invites artists to create postcard-sized artworks to be auctioned, in secret. 
The funds raised help support the RWA, a registered charity, in our mission to create lifelong journeys with art.

The 2025 Secret Postcard Auction has over 400 brand-new artworks up for grabs.

All artworks are signed on the back, so buyers either have to guess who the big name artists are or just buy what they like. Bidding on each work starts at just £40. You can view the postcards in person at the RWA 28th October – 06th November 2025

As an independent charity, the RWA must raise more than £1.1 million every year to sustain its exhibitions, learning programmes, community projects, historic building and collections, and support for artists.

Every postcard has been generously donated by an artist. Every bid supports artists. Every bid supports creativity. Every bid helps ensure that more people can experience the life-changing power of art.

We champion artistic excellence 

As the UK's only regional Royal Academy of Art, we present ambitious exhibitions, celebrate artistic achievement and create opportunities for audiences to engage with outstanding contemporary and historical art. Through these experiences, we inspire thousands of people to discover and deepen their own lifelong journeys with art. Last year alone over 128,000 people engaged with the RWA through events, exhibitions, learning programmes or creative activities. 

We create opportunities for future artists 

Creativity builds confidence, wellbeing and critical thinking. Through workshops, outreach projects and partnerships with schools and community organisations, we help children and young people discover the joy of making and experiencing art. Last year, 871 students took part in RWA learning activities.  

We support artists and creative careers 

Artists are at the heart of the RWA. Last year, we worked with 361 artists, creating opportunities to exhibit, sell work, develop professional skills and connect with new audiences. Income generated through our programmes helps artists sustain their practice and develop creative careers.  

We believe in the power of creativity 

We work with a wide range of community partners to use creativity as a tool for wellbeing, confidence and connection. Through programmes with people facing isolation, illness or other barriers, we help ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience the benefits of creativity and continue their own journey with art. 

We sustain the RWA's rich heritage 

From our iconic Grade II listed building to a collection spanning more than three centuries of art, we care for Bristol's creative heritage and share it with new audiences through conservation, research, exhibitions and loans, ensuring it continues to inspire future generations.
