About Rock from the Heart for Aortic Health

Rock from the heart’s founder, Pete Johnson, was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm and bicuspid valve in March 2015. Pete was one of the lucky ones--his aneurysm was detected in time to repair it and save his life. Not everyone is so fortunate: John Ritter, Alan Thicke, and Richard Holbrooke all died from un-diagnosed aneurysms.

Before his surgery, Pete told his wife, Amy, that once he recovered he wanted to do something to help others by raising awareness of this silent killer. When Pete’s condition was discovered, he had no symptoms. He felt fine. Had his doctor not heard a murmur and sent him for an echo, he’d be telling a very different story.
That's how Rock from the Heart was born.

Pete and Amy chose to support the John Ritter Foundation, because of their work in educating the public about aortic health and funding research to identify the genetic markers that can lead to aneurysm. Because of that work, doctors are more aware and looking for the signs. More people are being sent in for testing, and lives are being saved.

The John Ritter Foundation is dedicated to improving the identification of individuals at risk for aortic dissections and the treatment of thoracic aortic disease through medical research. The foundation also seeks to provide accurate information to the general public about the disease and its risk factors, along with support to individuals who have thoracic aortic disease or have lost a loved one to the disease. Finally, the foundation is dedicated to raising awareness of thoracic aortic disease, including risk factors, proper medical and surgical management, and recognition of symptoms of an acute aortic dissection.
