About Our Auction
Paddles For The Marathon is a fundraising event intended to highlight the talents of local artists through unique pieces of art created on replica canoe paddles.
The artists took inspiration for their work from the theme for this year's Marathon, "People, Places, Paddles....Life on the AuSable". The paddles were manufactured by the Wood Science Technology Program at Kirtland Community College from locally sourced wood.
The paddles will be on display in select Grayling and Oscoda businesses from June 1st through August 6th. Starting on July 22rd through August 7th an on-line auction will be open allowing you to bid for the paddle(s) of your choice.
The auction will close for bids at 8:00pm on Sunday, August 7th.
Proceeds from the auction will support The Marathon Scholarship Fund. Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from Crawford AuSable (Grayling), Mio and Oscoda high schools. An additional scholarship is provided to a Marathon paddler who is currently pursuing a degree or enrolled in a trade school OR to the son, daughter, or grandchild of a past Marathon paddler who is a graduating senior. More information about the scholarships can be found on the Marathon website.
