About Our Auction

Every April, we host a lively online auction to raise funds that help us keep our gallery running and expand the ways we support non-traditional artists. Generous donations from local businesses and artists fuel this event, allowing our community to come together in celebration of creativity while directly supporting the artists we champion. Each bid contributes to our mission of giving underrepresented artists the resources and opportunities they deserve.

About Outsiders and Others

Outsiders and Others is a non-profit organization established in March 2020. Our mission is to bring non-traditional artists to the forefront, including self-taught, outsider, folk, visionary, intuitive artists, and artists living with disabilities.

As an organization dedicated to supporting non-traditional artists, securing the funding needed to sustain and grow our work remains an ongoing challenge.

We present monthly exhibitions at our gallery at 938 Howe Street, alongside artist talks, workshops, and special cultural events. Beyond exhibitions, we are deeply committed to directly supporting artists. We offer free one-on-one consultations for artists who identify as living with a disability or with lived mental health experience. We assist with framing artwork when financial barriers exist, and we mentor artists throughout the entire exhibition process. We also prioritize fair compensation—artists receive 60% of all art sales,  higher than most commercial galleries, in addition to an exhibition honorarium.

Our gallery is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space where visitors can experience and discuss outsider art, as well as explore our growing library of books dedicated to the field.

Outsiders and Others is primarily volunteer-run—a passionate group dedicated to sharing art and cultural perspectives that are often underrepresented in our city.

As outsiders to this land—the land of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm / Musqueam , Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw / Squamish, and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ / Tsleil-Waututh  Nations — we continue to acknowledge their stewardship of these lands since time immemorial. We acknowledge the colonial history that has devastated these lands and peoples, and we are committed to learning from the past to help create a shared future of observation, reconciliation, and understanding. As visitors to this land, our gallery is committed to supporting the development of local Indigenous peoples and communities. In gratitude and with ever-evolving knowledge, we look forward to honest and open dialogue between Indigenous peoples and the outsiders who are here to create, learn, and prosper together.
