About Our Auction
The Old School Gathering Place is a non-profit cooperative, functioning as a centre for arts, culture, and innovation.
Some of the initiatives the Old School currently hosts:
We host a free community lunch every second Thursday for all community members, this allows new residents a chance to meet their neighbouring community and allows for the elderly in our community a social outing to keep them active in the community. It also provides a safe and welcoming space for individuals that are unhoused or in financial crisis to enjoy a homecooked meal and companionship.
We recently opened a temporary comfort centre, with funding from the
Department of Opportunities and Social Development which allows for a safe and warm place for community members during the winter months. This centre is also open to all community members who may experience unexpected situations in their homes/living areas (floods, no heat, etc.), or need a safe place to go in an emergency.
We have also recently found a need to supplement the current community food bank and hold a community pantry where those who find themselves in emergency need can gain access to grocery items, baby needs (diapers/food) and other essentials.
We have a housing program where we work with residents to find them safe, suitable, and affordable housing.
As a local not for profit organization we have no core funding and rely on grants and other temporary government funding as well as the generosity of our local community businesses and individuals to keep our programs and services running.
The proceeds of this auction will go towards keeping our food pantry stocked with items as well as expanding our programing to reach more individuals and meet the ever demanding need in our community.

About The Old School Community Gathering Place
THE OLD SCHOOL COMMUNITY GATHERING PLACE is a non-profit cooperative and a registered charity. Located in a Heritage building in Musquodoboit Harbour, The Old School is a Centre for Arts, Wellness, Culture & Innovation.
Our building operated as a school from 1929 until it's closure in 2006. In 2010 it was officially registered as The Old School Community Gathering Place.
We offer a number of regular programs as well various support services for individuals in our community.
The Musqui Cafe offers a free community lunch every 2nd Thursday, our Musqui Comfort Centre is a temporary centre during the cold months for individuals who need shelter from the weather/elements or safe spaces in the night, our Youth Employment Strategies and Skills program provides youth an opportunity to gain certifications and develop new skills while receiving career support, our housing program helps to find safe, suitable and affordable housing for those who are unhoused, living rough, or precariously housed, and our emergency food pantry for individuals/families needing assistance.
These supports do not include our weekly programing that consists of:
-Movement based program for those with Parkinson's, MS, Alzheimer's and Dementia.
-free literacy support
-drumming group
-Tai Chi classes ...........just to name a few.
