About NTDC Thunder Bay
The National Team Development Centre Thunder Bay is a community based organization working to provide elite cross country skiers with intensive training and competition programs. Since 1993 NTDC has been developing champion skiers, and also the coaches and wax technicians who strengthen the fabric of high performance and grassroots Nordic skiing in our city, our province and the whole country.
We are incredibly proud our team —from those passionately training and honing their skills every day to those who have achieved the honour of representing Canada on the world stage. Here are a few examples of team members who have proudly carried our nation's colours in international competition:
Cedric, who proudly competed at the 2024 Youth Olympic Games, exemplifies the promise of our young athletes, pushing boundaries and setting the foundation for future success.
Clara, who represented Canada at the 2024 World Junior Championships, is a testament to the hard work and dedication it takes to excel at the international level, inspiring young athletes to dream big.
Graham, who competed at the 2022 Olympic Games, shows that with the right support, dedication, and community, it’s possible to reach the pinnacle of sport.
Fergus, who began as an athlete at NTDC, transitioned to technical support, and now works as a wax technician for Nordiq Canada on the World Cup Circuit, demonstrating our commitment to developing the entire high-performance ecosystem.
These team members have been able to achieve remarkable milestones thanks to the resources, training, and support they received at NTDC Thunder Bay.
Building on the legacy of the 1995 Nordic World Championships, our athletes and staff proudly have represented Thunder Bay and Canada on the National Ski Team, and around the world at countless FIS World Cups, Nordic World Championships and World Junior/U23 Championships.
All of this has raised the profile of Nordic skiing in Thunder Bay to a level that few communities in Canada can match. By attracting and training high level athletes, coaches and events, NTDC has helped to anchor our community in the provincial and national Nordic ski scenes. NTDC coaches, athletes and technicians work closely with Cross Country Ski Ontario (XCSO) and Nordiq Canada, and our organization maintains strong relationships with the diverse clubs and organizations that make up the Thunder Bay ski community.
The NTDC program provides role models who exemplify what it means to strive for excellence, inspire us with their passionate pursuit of their dreams, and act as role models and ambassadors for healthy active living.
