About Our Auction

The Marilynn Smith & Founders’ Legacy Foundation forwards the spirit and legacy of all the LPGA Founders and Pioneers, including the Marilynn Smith Scholarship Fund, which, since 1999, has awarded over $1 million to 199 young women to pursue their academic dreams and further their golf careers.

About Marilynn Smith Scholarship

The Marilynn Smith Scholarship Fund provides annual grants to female students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and extraordinary community involvement and plan to play collegiate golf. While playing golf at the University of Kansas, Marilynn competed in the 1949 Women’s National Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. Her father asked the KU athletic director, Phog Allen, for travel expense money to play in the event. He said, “Mr. Smith, it’s too bad your daughter is not a boy.” This was the catalyst for Marilynn to establish her scholarship fund.

Marilynn Smith Scholarships are granted annually through The LPGA Foundation. Established in 1999 by Marilynn. LPGA Co-Founder and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, with the proceeds of a golf tournament she organized, the objective of the Marilynn Smith Scholarship is to provide a scholarship to a female high school senior who has played golf in high school or in her community and is planning to play golf at an accredited college or university in the United States. Five $5,000 scholarships were just awarded in 2021. The Marilynn Smith Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who will play golf at the collegiate level.
