About Kiwanis Rose Float Club of Pasadena

Kiwanis Rose Float Club, who are we and why do we exist? First, we are members of Kiwanis International, a worldwide service organization dedicated to building leaders. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses New Years Parade is one of the largest community parades in the world, viewed by over 60 million people. The Kiwanis Rose Float Project organizes 4,000 – 5,000 high school, and college youth with adults to decorate 10 floats that are seen every year on January 1st. We have shifts of 400 – 500 kids working in the Phoenix Decorating facility. They will be preparing material, cutting flowers, filling plastic vials with water, to put roses into. Some will be applying flowers, seeds and bark. During the last week of December from December 26 – December 31 we are running two shifts, 8am – 4 and 4pm – 11pm.
The adult Kiwanians chaperon and work with the professional float builder Phoenix Decorating Company to manage our volunteer teams. However, it is the Key Club and Circle K leaders who organize and coordinate their teams to come to their shifts. This is truly a once in a life time opportunity to be part of a world class operation and the lessons they take home will last them a life time. Every year the International President of Kiwanis visits to ride in the parade. When they visit the Phoenix decorating site and see 400+ of our middle school, high school and college members of the Kiwanis Family scrambling to decorate the floats all dressed in blue Kiwanis shirts, they are in awe. They have never seen anything like it.
