This year's beautiful spokespet is Emma!

When Mike and Kerstin Powell found a dog they loved on the Kitsap Humane Society website in August 2018, they didn’t realize it was the wrong dog. They had come to visit a dog named Doogan, but instantly fell in love with Emma, a cute-as-a-button Terrier/Boxer mix (don’t worry… Doogan was adopted just days later). A stray that’d been transferred from the streets of Texas, Emma “was just skin and bones” says Kerstin, but she “took right to them” and made fast friends with their other pups – Yogi and Daisy – as well. Now seven years old, this super affectionate little girl loves to lay in the sun, soaking up the heat (as a Texas dog would), and running around Fish Park in Poulsbo with her family, though she doesn’t like the car ride to get there. Mike and Kerstin have been married for 36 years now (“we just got used to each other,” says Mike) and it seems that the life they’ve built suits Emma just fine. Such a sweet girl and a sweet family.

You, too, can bid to have your furr-ever friend be the spokes-pet for 2024!

Our Holiday Gift Auction runs from Friday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19.

About Kitsap Humane Society

Founded in 1908 and located in Silverdale, Washington, Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) serves Kitsap County and beyond as more than a shelter.

We work to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for thousands of animals every year. To do this, we are committed to an open admissions policy – meaning we don’t turn animals in need away, and excellence in all of our services.

Over the last decade, KHS’s lifesaving rate has improved dramatically as one of the leading animal welfare organizations in the Pacific Northwest, achieving 96% (or better) lives saved for the last six years. This lifesaving rate puts KHS in the top-tier of large, open-admission animal shelters in the US, exceeding the 90% save rate that is the “gold standard” nationally in animal welfare.

Today, thanks to generous community support, a broad volunteer and foster base, and a strong team of staff, KHS continues to transform animal welfare in Kitsap County and beyond by saving thousands of animals, including dogs and cats, small animals, and occasional livestock through compassionate, individualized, lifesaving care.

Committed to serving pets and the people who love them, KHS offers dedicated programs and services such as reuniting lost pets and their families, adoptions, Animal Control, behavioral and owned pet support, our Pet Food Pantry and Pet Protection Program, a robust transfer program, community spay/neuter surgeries, and vaccine/microchip clinics, as well as pet licensing and end-of-life services.
