Meet our beautiful 2025 Holiday Auction Spokespet- Zinnia!
Zinnia was adopted from Kitsap Humane Society in March 2023. Her parents, Amy and Dan Jepsen, kept her name because “it fit her bright personality.” From day one, she was affectionate. “After decompressing under the bed, she came out, climbed on my lap, showered me with kisses, biscuits, head butts, nuzzling, and repeated for the next person who came in.”
When the Jepsens visited KHS, they were looking for an “emotional support” companion for their 10-year-old cat, Tucker, after their older kitty, Mouse (a 2012 KHS alum), passed away. “Tucker desperately needed a new best friend, and we found it in Zinnia,” Amy shared. “Within a few days of moving in, she had lured Tucker out from under the bed and engaged him in a game of ‘catch-me-if-you-can’ throughout the house, followed by grooming and snuggling together on the couch. It was magical!”
Once a 2-year-old stray, Zinnia quickly revealed her loving and mischievous nature. Her “skills” include “hunting for bagels (in the bag), bread loaves (also in the bag), and donuts (in a carton) left unattended on the kitchen counter.” Her playful streak showed itself when the family “woke up one morning to a colorful array of strings and yarns winding down the stairs and around the furniture. She had found a stash of leftover yarn balls tucked away in a closet.”
Now 4 years old, Zinnia is still playing chase and cuddling with Tucker. “She is our morning sunshine, waking us up with biscuits and sandpaper kisses,” Amy says. “She is our shadow, keeping tabs wherever we go in the house, and she’s the best helper, ‘helping’ with needlework projects, unpacking boxes, putting laundry away, and even on the computer.”
“Zinnia truly is the best emotional support kitty for all of us!”
You, too, can bid to have your furr-ever friend be the Spokes-pet for 2026!

About Kitsap Humane Society
Founded in 1908 and located in Silverdale, Washington, Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) serves Kitsap County and beyond as more than a shelter.
We work to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for thousands of animals every year. To do this, we are committed to an open admissions policy – meaning we don’t turn animals in need away, and excellence in all of our services.
Over the last decade, KHS’s lifesaving rate has improved dramatically as one of the leading animal welfare organizations in the Pacific Northwest, achieving 96% (or better) lives saved for the last six years. This lifesaving rate puts KHS in the top-tier of large, open-admission animal shelters in the US, exceeding the 90% save rate that is the “gold standard” nationally in animal welfare.
Today, thanks to generous community support, a broad volunteer and foster base, and a strong team of staff, KHS continues to transform animal welfare in Kitsap County and beyond by saving thousands of animals, including dogs and cats, small animals, and occasional livestock through compassionate, individualized, lifesaving care.
Committed to serving pets and the people who love them, KHS offers dedicated programs and services such as reuniting lost pets and their families, adoptions, Animal Control, behavioral and owned pet support, our Pet Food Pantry and Pet Protection Program, a robust transfer program, community spay/neuter surgeries, and vaccine/microchip clinics, as well as pet licensing and end-of-life services.
