Last November, South Dakota’s voters made history by voting to legalize both medical and adult-use cannabis in the same election. Amendment A, adult-use, passed by 8 points at 54% of the vote during the second-largest voter turnout in SD history. Both measures received more votes than either presidential candidate in a dozen or more counties across the state.

SD Governor Kristi Noem directed a challenge against Amendment A that was officially brought by two members of SD Law Enforcement, Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom and Col. Rick Miller, Superintendent of the SD Highway Patrol. Governor Noem also authorized the use of taxpayer funds to pay for Col. Miller’s attorney fees. The South Dakota Attorney General, who is paid for by South Dakota taxpayer dollars, was defending the measure in the lower court. Last month, that court's ruling, issued by Judge Christina Klinger, ruled the amendment as unconstitutional based on SD’s single-subject clause. Judge Klinger’s decision is being appealed to the South Dakota Supreme Court by South Dakotans for Better Marijuana Laws.

Our goal with this two-part event is to raise a total of $20k to support the legal effort to defend Amendment A and to take a stand for the voice of the People.

One of South Dakota’s fundamental principles and our state motto, “Under God, the People Rule” has been stretched and threatened. We the People have decided this is the time to make a stand and push back against those who would attempt to ignore and silence us and our votes.
