Further, imagine if you were a parent and responsible for the lives of small children and were unable to provide them with a safe place to call home.

 Most Americans are only one crisis away from homelessness and lack
a sufficient amount of savings to cover emergency costs.

"Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, about 12% of mortgage holder households and 18% of renter households have missed their mortgage or rent payments in the past month. This stands in sharp contrast with the 4% and 7% respective missed or late payment rates in the last three months of 2017" (UC Riverside, School of Public Policy, 2020)." Housing insecurity is a growing problem, and its effects are felt throughout our community.
 
Family Promise of Sussex County is a 501(c)3, nonprofit organization that has been serving the homeless in Sussex County for over 20 years. The agency provides assistance to at-risk and homeless households in the form of rental assistance, case management, emergency shelter, life skill training seminars, and emotional and psychological support and referral services to meet the needs of those faced with a housing crisis. In 2021, Family Promise of Sussex County worked with over 600 households to stabilize housing and provide for long-term housing stability.

Incorporated in 1997, Family Promise of Sussex County has provided services to assist families and single men and women as they work towards housing stability and self-sufficiency. The mission of the agency is to secure housing stability and sustainability for those in crisis... because everyone deserves a home!

In recent years we have expanded the resources available to include Emergency Shelter, Men’s Day, Intensive Case Management Services, Homelessness Prevention, Permanent Supportive Housing, Shelter Diversion, LIHEAP Utility Assistance, and Rapid Rehousing Programs.
