About Our Auction

For the last 14 years, the Environment Council of Rhode Island (ECRI) has been awarding small grants to RI Schools and after-school programs for environmental projects such as rain gardens, school gardens, tree planting, composting, recycling equipment and outdoor classrooms. ECRI has supported these small grants by raffling off items and services donated ECRI members and by members of the environmental community in Rhode Island. The most recent awardees are the Central Falls School District Experiential Learning Community, Ricci Middle School in North Providence, and the Westerly Land Trust’s outdoor classroom.

The Loraine Tisdale Environmental Education Awards honor the memory of a long-time ECRI activist best known for her work with youth and her work with the Group Against Pesticide Spraying. Loraine’s old school raffle ticket selling made obvious the methodology for funding that we began the program with, but the world has changed.

This year ECRI starts a new tradition, an online auction to fund the Tisdale Awards.

About The Environmental Council of Rhode Island

The Environment Council of Rhode Island (ECRI) is a coalition of over 60 Rhode Island organizations as well as individuals whose mission is to serve as an effective voice for developing and advocating policies and laws that protect and enhance the environment.

The Council embodies and promotes the vision that together we can build an ecologically healthy future in a sustainable economy. ECRI provides its members with a forum for sharing information and technical expertise, and provides policymakers and the public with informed opinions and position statements.

ECRI was founded in 1972 and we are the successor organization to the Rhode Island Wildlife Federation which was founded in 1938. The National Wildlife Federation was founded in 1936.
