About The Artist

This nature-inspired glass sculpture is by world-renown artist William Morris of Seattle, WA. Morris is internationally collected and acclaimed for his contemporary work with glass that explores themes related to anthropology, archaeology and the natural world. He is a Methow Valley friend to Classroom in Bloom and generously donated this glass sculpture called "Standing Stone'' as a way to raise funds to grow our education, garden and nutrition programs for children in our community.

Classroom in Bloom’s work is important to Morris because it emulates healthy living and connects children to the natural world, both an inspiration to Morris in his art and his daily life. This particular "Standing Stone'' sculpture is from Morris’s early works; it delivers a vivid description of an ancient monolith stone, emphasizing natural textures and artistic angles. Creative movement in the glass resembles the depth of a starry night sky. Silhouette patterns of deep earthy tones are dappled with mineral blues and crystalline plum hues. It stands 23 inches tall, 9.5 inches wide, and 4 inches deep; the scultpture is accentuated by internal LED lighting to bring this inanimate stone to life, preparing its place into any home.

About Classroom in Bloom

Classroom in Bloom is a community garden, built to inspire Methow Valley children to live a healthy lifestyle, make healthy choices, and eat healthy food. Our Farm-to-Cafeteria program teaches about sustainable food systems that support our agricultural community, providing experiential, inquiry-based learning opportunities and a place-based sense of wonder. Our school garden produces thousands of pounds of produce each year, donated to the schools’ cafeterias, weekly to students as healthy snacks, and to summer camp participants.
