About Our Auction

All funds raised in this auction will go to the Tyson Giuriato Hockey Camp Scholarship.

To honour Tyson’s passion and contributions to the game of hockey, his family and the CSSHL community would like to offer families the ability to have their child attend a summer hockey camp of their choice across Canada (does not need to be affiliated with a CSSHL program). The Tyson Giuriato Hockey Camp Scholarship will make this possible by paying for hockey camp registrations through this online auction for the successful applicants.

Tyson Giuriato, Director of Media and Communications for the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL), passed away in August 2020. Tyson joined the league in 2013. His knowledge of the game, willingness to engage with student-athletes, and ability to track alumni success both on and off the ice were undeniable and made him a key component of the league.

Away from work, Tyson enjoyed his boxer dogs, road trips exploring new areas, BBQ cook-offs, fishing, spending time on Denman Island, reading and cheering for his favourite football team, the Seattle Seahawks – having been on the season ticket waiting list for years. Tyson loved sports, but his true passion was for the game of hockey. He was a lifelong fan of the Vancouver Canucks.

As a child playing rep hockey on Vancouver Island, Tyson would spend time each week tracking player stats in all the local rep leagues, monitoring every player’s achievements. His parents still have these collected stats – a reminder of his passion for the game. Tyson also enjoyed the many hockey camps he attended as a child, which helped shape him as both a player and a person. At the age of 15, he left home to join the Banff Hockey Academy, where he made life-long friends from all over the world while playing the game he loved.

After school, Tyson pursued a successful career in hockey journalism, where he wrote articles for both Hockey Canada and his beloved Vancouver Canucks. During Tyson’s time with the CSSHL, he played a pivotal role in growing the league from 22 teams in British Columbia and Alberta, to 84 teams spread all across Canada. He managed all of the leagues’ press releases, stories, and social media presence which he grew from launch to include Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube accounts with over 25,000 followers.

About CSSHL

CSSHL League Mission Statement: “To be National Leaders in Education-Based Hockey”

In 2009, five like-minded Hockey Canada Accredited Schools came together to launch the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. Their vision was to establish a league designed specifically for elite level student athletes, give these athletes an opportunity to increase their skills on and off the ice, and provide athletes with a high level of competition as well as exposure.

The inaugural 2009-10 season featured five sport schools and eight total teams spread across two divisions. During the 2021-22 season, the CSSHL will feature 26 Accredited Schools/Schools with Residence and 94 teams in eight different divisions.

All programs within the CSSHL are sanctioned Hockey Canada Accredited Schools or Schools with Residence, meeting the regulations of not only Hockey Canada, but their respective provincial or regional members.

The CSSHL continually strives to be a leader in education based hockey in North America. The objective of the league is to provide a competitive environment for young student athletes that share similar values of Sportsmanship, Citizenship, Academic Excellence and Hockey Development.
