About Our Auction

The men’s and women’s groups of Congregation Beth David, the largest conservative synagogue in Silicon Valley, aim to actively transform people’s Jewish lives through prayer, study and community.

The proceeds of the Silent Auction will be used to support our Congregation as well as its community outreach activities. This past year our outreach activities have included donating food and school supplies to local agencies, joining other faith-based communities to provide a safe place for people living in their vehicles to stay overnight, supporting women’s shelters, and more. Our activities have been successful for many years thanks to our volunteer members and generous donations from local businesses.

Please note the following information about this year’s Silent Auction:

Date of the Event: The auction will be held online only. If COVID restrictions allow at the time, bidding cards with QR codes will be on display at Beth David on Erev Purim (Wednesday March 16th).

Bidding Begins: March 2nd at Noon
Bidding Ends: March 18th at Noon*

To ensure fairness:
Any individual item's end time will be extended by 3 minutes if it receives a bid during the final 3 minutes (for up to a max of 30 minutes of extension). Bidders will be notified that they have been outbid at the address they have entered into the system.

Bids can be placed on items either online or by scanning the QR codes with your phone in person if we hold the live event. Some items may be available on a "Buy it Now" basis. “Proxy Bids” (explained below) allow you to continue bidding up to a maximum amount set by you in advance. At the conclusion of the auction the highest valid bid wins and winners will be promptly notified. Buyers are expected to pay for and arrange for pick up or delivery of their items promptly.

Proxy Bidding Explained:
A proxy bid allows you to enter the maximum amount you are willing to spend and then lets the system bid for you up to that amount. For example, if an item is currently selling for $10 and you enter a proxy bid of $50, the system will automatically bid for you at listed increments when competing bids are placed until the selling price goes over $50. At that point, you will be outbid and someone else will be the leading bidder. You will only owe the amount the system has bid for you which will never be more than your maximum proxy bid amount. A proxy bid is a single bid and only shows up in the online bid history one time.
