Black and Gold 2016 Art Auction

The Art Auction is an important part of KWAG's annual gala fundraiser, Black and Gold. This auction features works by artists from the region as well as further afield, all of whom support the Gallery and know the importance of art to our community. Funds raised from the art auction and Black and Gold support the 100+ free and low-cost programs offered at KWAG annually and exhibitions.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of The Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, Waterloo Region's leading public art gallery. For six decades, KWAG has connected people and ideas through art, with a focus on the best of contemporary culture.

For the benefit of current and future generations, the Gallery collects, preserves, researches, interprets, and exhibits the visual arts and offers dynamic public programming relating to the visual arts, all with a view to inspiring creativity and an appreciation of the visual arts in the Region.

Established in 1956 and incorporated in 1968, the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery is a non-profit organization open to the public and administered in the public trust. The Gallery emphasizes contemporary art, often premiering works by Canadian and international artists. Exhibitions frequently draw upon selections from over 4000 works from the Permanent Collection to provide a context and forum for dialogue on current exhibitions and contemporary issues. KWAG plays a vital educational role in the community, offering a full spectrum of artistic experience for adults, children and families alike.

The Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery's annual fundraising event, the Black & Gold Gala, is highlighted by beautiful art, an amazing selection of silent and live auction items and delicious food and wine. Last year's event raised over $55,000 for YOUR public art gallery!

KWAG takes pride in its growing recognition and support from the community and is working towards a sustainable operating model. The Gallery's Black & Gold Gala fundraising event helps sustain the Gallery's programming, educational and exhibition activities.
