Big Waves Family 5k

Help create a ripple of positivity by bidding on silent auction items. Proceeds from the auction will support purchasing high school water polo caps, water polo scholarships, and giving back to our community and partners. Big Waves can not create ripples globally, without the support of you!

Big Waves Foundation formed after Vaughn Bigelow Jr, only 14, was shot and killed due to gun violence following a road rage incident in June 2018. The Bigelows had to find a way shed light on aspects that created joy in Vaughn’s life as well as discussions around the cause of his death thus Big Waves was formed.

Big Waves Foundation is a non-profit organization with an unquenchable drive to address two important initiatives:

Enrich the lives of kids through the sport of water polo, including, but not limited to, encouraging school districts to include water polo as a school-sponsored program and providing collegiate scholarships to deserving athletes.
Advocate for gun sensibility by encouraging honest, respectful conversations within our families, communities, and government agencies to implement collaborative, common-ground measures to eliminate the tragic outcomes associated with gun violence. The problem is real; the time is now.

These two initiatives appear mutually exclusive. However, in a broad sense, we suggest the intersection highlights overall wellness. In particular, mental and emotional health.
