Mustangs & WarHorses (M&W) is an experiential therapeutic program set up for a total of 10 two hour sessions (total of 20 hours) creating a more powerful experience for each participant. Rather than talking one-on-one with a therapist in an office, this program offers an outdoor setting combining trauma-focused psychotherapists and rescued Evanescent Mustangs with Veterans and 1st responders battling a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. The rescued Mustangs that are chosen for this program are at different stages of healing offering a unique opportunity for the Veterans/1st Responders and Mustangs to continue on their healing journey together. Horses are honest, intuitive, and will call out any BS brought into the arena, but mustangs take it to a higher level for a deeper healing to occur. M&W is designed to help reduce trauma responses while learning self-regulation, mindfulness, boundaries, confidence, and building trust. The psychotherapists assist the Veterans/1st Responders in recognizing their triggers, emotional responses, and releasing toxic trauma they may be holding onto.

Evanescent Mustang Rescue and Sanctuary was created for the prevention of animal cruelty through educating the public about horse care and safety as well as rescuing the equine (specifically mustangs and burros) from slaughter. We are a 501(c)3 charity established in Sherman, Texas in March, 2017 and 100% of donations go directly to the Mustangs & Burros
