BLRR Spring Auction 2026

Brookline’s dogs are carefully evaluated, and potential adopters are screened, in order to make the best match. We successfully place more than 100 Labradors each year! We know we can’t save them all, but we are making a huge difference to the ones we do save. Our volunteers work tirelessly in support of our mission – they are the heart and soul of our rescue. However, all of our financial support is received through private donations, nominal adoption fees, and fundraisers such as our online auctions. Every dollar we raise helps to cover veterinary and other expenses we incur in caring for and matching our rescued Labs to their perfect forever family. Your support is crucial to our mission of saving more Labs. Together, we will make a difference!

Trixie (pictured left) is a beautiful and sweet 10-Year-Old Yellow Labrador Retriever who had lived her whole life on a breeding farm. She was living outside on the farm with access to one of the barns for shelter, without any other dogs and not much human attention. 

Trixie had her rescue ride off the farm in January.  It’s understandable that she was a bit unnerved and anxious in the car after spending 10 years on the farm, but after reassurances with gentle talking, singing and calming music, she settled down and snuggled into the big blanket. 

Trixie never had any vaccinations or vet care while living on the farm, so she headed directly to the walk-in vet to bring her up to date before heading home. During the exam, it was determined that she had a small growth on her left upper eyelid and a couple of soft lumps on her side and chest. The doctor also noted cataracts in both eyes and felt that her vision was very limited. It was also determined that the small growth on her eyelid was causing conjunctivitis, so she was started on medicine for the eye.

One icy Monday morning in February, Trixie woke up in her own blood.  After some help from kind neighbors who helped to shovel the snow and lift Trixie into the car, she got to the Emergency Vet. It was determined that Trixie had a UTI and a large mass in her girl parts that ruptured and needed further evaluation by a surgeon.  A week and a half later, Trixie underwent a long day including an exam, x-rays and an ultrasound.  Fortunately, the x-rays and ultrasound did not show any mass in her chest, abdomen or lymph nodes. The doctor said the pelvic mass was large and needed to come out.  Trixie also had a small mass in her mammary gland which needed to be removed. Trixie was nothing but delightful throughout all her testing.  Everyone that saw her – staff and strangers alike – commented on her beauty, gentleness and ability to navigate despite her sight issues. 

Trixie's surgery was completed.  She had her ovaries removed along with three mammary lumps. The surgeon was able to remove the pelvic mass without issue. Biopsies showed all the lumps and the mass were benign!

All told, Trixie’s vet costs were $9,608.00.  It’s through Fundraisers like this Auction and our generous followers that allow us to give these rescue dogs the medical care that they need.

100% of the proceeds from our auction will go towards helping dogs like Trixie. Our hope is that the funds we raise will allow us to continue to provide quality care to many dogs. So please, BID EARLY, BID OFTEN, BID HIGH!
