Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan has been an on the ground presence in Afghanistan since 1997. Over the years, with support from people like you, CW4WAfghan has made an enormous difference in the quality of women's lives. Every item in our auction (excluding the support we have gratefully received from local businesses, as well as donations from Friends of CW4WAFGHAN) has come from reliable suppliers in Afghanistan, and every cent we make will be returned there. The artisans who create our goods will receive new orders, and our on the ground work in education and life support will continue.

Since 1997, CW4WA has been present in Afghanistan, with the goal of training teachers to a high level of excellence, and putting girls into schools. Prior to the second Taliban takeover in August of 2021, we had trained over 10,000 teachers, and provided literacy classes for nearly 5000 female students, as well as distributing nearly 300 school library starter kits, establishing 40 community libraries, outfitting 262 science labs and sharing thousands of resources daily, through our Darakht-e Danesh Digital library.
Today, however, the changes in our mandate have been driven by necessity. Providing educational programming within the country is a high risk task, but our committed staff there is proceeding with courage and caution. Online learning is the best way to reach the largest number of girls, and we are running online high school classes. In addition, we are providing scholarships for higher education, and 90% of these are for girls who will continue their studies in Afghanistan.
CW4WA is also providing some financial support with food-aid, in addition to learning assistance, for families in need. Additionally, we are continuing with various printing activities, including storybook publishing.
