We are raising money to pay the salaries of our program staff in Ethiopia. This includes our 2 Mobile Resource Teachers, our 2 Librarians, our 6 Literacy teachers and our 2 Girl's Outreach Workers.

Education 4 Change is a non-profit, grassroots organization that is based in Waterloo, Ontario. We work in partnership with the communities in the Somali Region of Ethiopia to improve their education, increase literacy and promote gender equality.

Schools in the Somali Region of Ethiopia often employ unqualified teachers, are too small for their student population and they lack the necessary  resources to educate their students properly. There are also a lot of barriers that prevent girls from going to school and graduating which includes household responsibilities, childhood marriages and a lack of bathroom facilities for girls. A consequence of these conditions is that the majority of women, and a large number of the men are illiterate and there is widespread poverty in the area.

We firmly believe that we can break the cycle of poverty in this region by educating the community members which will help them to become skilled, employable and self-sufficient. Our programs include a permanent library, mobile resource teachers,  women's literacy classes, teachers' training, girl's outreach workers, the distribution of mental hygiene kits and building girl's bathrooms at local schools.
