About Cindy Guthrie Art

Cindy Guthrie is an acrylic painter, in Oklahoma City, OK, who was so taken by a photo posted to social media from the cover of a summer 2020 issue of Curbside Chronicle, she created a portrait painting. The proceeds of this auction will be donated to benefit The Homeless Alliance, OKC, as well as Dominique Gray, the subject of the painting.

“I had the experience of a photo taking hold of my heart. I follow Homeless Alliance on Instagram, and there was this photo of Dominique Gray which captured me. The photo itself is a striking portrait in black and white, but there was something in his expression that I don’t really know can be totally conveyed in words. I later learned that he was asked to think about his time of homelessness as a teen, but to me, his expression had more than sadness or remembering of a traumatic time. It spoke of self-worth, confidence, hope, pride, a strong, yet humble spirit—so much more. And these words really don’t capture it at all. Once I had seen the photo, I knew I wanted to paint the image. Long before I had permission, or had met the subject of the photo or the photographer, I knew I had to paint the image.”

You may follow along at FB or Instagram @cindyguthrieart for more of the story, as well as additional photos of the painting.
