About Our Auction

Art has missed you. Don't miss this art.

We are pleased to present Art on the Block 2020. While this year’s event is a little different, the goal remains the same: to connect bidders with an opportunity to purchase engaging experiences and amazing artworks from Alberta artists while raising funds to support the Art Gallery of Alberta. Art on the Block (AOTB) is our largest annual fundraiser, so please bid generously and/or consider making a donation to support our exhibitions and educational programming. Make sure you create a free account at 32auctions.com/login to bid and THANK YOU for your support.

A heartfelt thank you to all our artists, donors, partners and presenting sponsor CWB for their continued support.

Guide for Prospective Buyers:

Items may be sold at Fair Market Value (FMV) during the in-person Curator's Preview event at the AGA on October 2. Sold items will be noted online.

Starting Bid: All lots are subject to reserves which is the minimum starting bid. The reserve is approximately 50-60% of the assessed Fair Market Value (FMV).

Buyer's premium: All starting bids include a buyer’s premium of 5% of the FMV which helps us cover auction/exhibition costs.

Fair Market Value: Fair Market Value (FMV) is the value at which an object changes hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller, acting independently of each other, neither being under any compulsion to buy or sell and both having reasonable knowledge of the relevant facts.

Bids Exceeding FMV: Bidders who pay 25% more than the assessed FMV are eligible for a Charitable Tax Receipt for the amount above the FMV. This applies only to artworks and experience items. We are unable to issue tax receipts for services and vouchers.

Artist Payment: For every AOTB, artists generously, and voluntarily, donate their artwork. Artists will receive 30% of the total winning bid amount and/or a charitable tax receipt for their donation.

About Art Gallery of Alberta

The Art Gallery of Alberta, founded in 1924, is both the oldest cultural institution in Alberta and a non-governmental charitable organization. We are also the only museum exclusively dedicated to the presentation and preservation of visual arts in Alberta.

Since 1924, the AGA has worked to enrich people's lives through dynamic exhibitions and education programs. When you donate to the AGA, you are supporting a central gathering place for all Albertans to learn, explore and practice art. Moreover, you are helping to create opportunities for both established and emerging artists, who make us proud to live and work in Alberta.
