A Bid for the Future 2022

Welcome to A Bid for the Future 2022, an auction to benefit the Indigenous Andean weaving communities of the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco (CTTC). CTTC works with about 650 weavers and their families across ten weaving communities in the Cusco region of Peru to help them recover and sustain their textile traditions.

This year's auction has a very special focus: it features many items collected over the years by the late Tim Wells, a passionate supporter of Andean weavers and of the CTTC in its formative years. In 1998, Tim and his family moved to Cusco and spent the next several years helping CTTC open the store and education center on Avenida Sol. Tim visited the communities often to help with natural dye workshops and to cheer on the weavers as they worked to recover their ancestral textile techniques. In Tim’s honor, this year’s donation choices in the auction include tools and materials to support the weavers, young and old, who were so dear to his heart. A $20 donation will buy a set of weaving tools for a young weaver or an adult whose tools have worn out. A donation of $25 helps cover the cost of materials for a young weaver's traditional clothing to wear for weaving demonstrations, classes, and festivals.

When you register for the auction, you will receive an invitation to a sneak peek at the collection including presentations on the textile techniques represented. This online program will also include a presentation by CTTC director Nilda Callañaupa about their project to recover the ancient ticlla-watay technique (some of which are in the auction).

Even if you aren’t buying any textiles right now, join us for this special program, and consider making a donation to continue the ongoing work of the CTTC. The support of the ATA community, people like Tim Wells and like you, has helped Indigenous people in the Peruvian Andes to preserve their heritage and build a better future for more than 20 years. Please help us continue the work this year, with your own Bid for the Future!
