ASTM Hemp Match Maker

The hemp industry is ready for its next evolution; but it needs trusted standards to get there.

Led entirely by an all-volunteer team of technical experts serving on the ASTM D37.07 Industrial Hemp Subcommittee for Fiber, this effort is bringing together leaders from across agriculture, processing, manufacturing, research, and end-use industries to establish the science-based standards needed to strengthen the hemp supply chain. With the support of the Industrial Hemp Research Foundation we are launching our education-fundraiser to match hemp raw fiber to finished products that you already know or may come to love! With standards we can scale these industries globally and bring sustainable hemp fibers into the mainstream.

Our team was awarded an ASTM Accelerated Standards Grant of $35,000 from ASTM International with a matching funds commitment. The Online Auction; Making the Match for Hemp is designed to showcase the depth and diversity of the hemp marketplace while bringing together stakeholders from across the supply chain. From farm to finished products, the auction highlights the innovation, products, and partnerships driving the industry's future while raising the $20,000 remaining in matching funds needed to complete this groundbreaking project.

The standards developed through this initiative will help farmers, processors, manufacturers, and consumers by enabling reliable quality determination for hemp fiber and hurd. The results will support sustainable construction, textiles, automotive and aerospace composites, biochar, graphene, hydrogels, and other emerging bio-based materials, helping hemp compete as a trusted global commodity.
