IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's 2026

On Sunday, May 31, 2026 the Niagara Region will join communities across the country as we participate in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s – Canada’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.  Together we walk in support of the 12,477 people in Niagara who are experiencing a progressive dementia, the most common of which is Alzheimer’s disease.

In addition to our individual fundraising efforts, the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region is running an online auction from Friday, May 29 @ 9:00 am – Sunday, June 7 @ 7:00pm.  Help us reach our fundraising goal by supporting our online auction! 

All funds raised at our Walk for Alzheimer's community event and through this online auction will stay local allowing us to continue offering counseling services, support groups, social recreation programs, and respite care for people living with dementia and their families. The money raised also helps us provide education and training opportunities for health care professionals, local businesses, and the community to help make Niagara Region more dementia-friendly.

Today, we are at a tipping point. The number of people living with Alzheimer's and dementia is growing rapidly.  Every day, more than 414 people in Canada develop dementia (more than 17 every hour) that’s why it’s so important we continue the conversation, raise funds, and spread awareness in our community. 

In Niagara, we have one of the highest percentages of seniors per capita, yet we lack available specialized geriatric resources compared to other communities. Currently, there are over 12,477 people in Niagara alone who are experiencing a progressive dementia, the most common of which is Alzheimer’s disease.
 
The Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region offers specialized counselling services to mitigate risk, a vast array of wellness and social programs, and opportunities to educate people living with dementia, their families, caregivers, and the public at large.

From 2025-2026, we:
 Accepted over 2,000 new referrals across the Niagara Region 

Served 3,749 unique individuals across all departments 

Conducted 13,118 visits across the whole organization 

Had a total attendance of 12,902 at all programs 

Provided 50,265 hours of Respite Care 

294 Volunteers provided 4,521 hours of volunteer services.
