A New Orleans Style Gala Benefit

Walden Center & School, a leader in arts-integrated progressive education, is hosting its 21th Annual Gala and Silent Auction at Metro Lighting in Berkeley on February 29, 2020. We are raising funds for our financial aid program which is an integral part of maintaining a socio-economically diverse student body from Berkeley, Oakland, Albany, El Cerrito and Richmond.

Walden’s financial aid program supports 40% of the families and is a critical part of our values and vision for the school community. At Walden we believe that equity and access are vital components to building a strong community. Last year we raised over $14,000, and to keep Walden a socio-economically diverse and dynamic school we hope to raise even more this year.

Walden's unique progressive K-6 elementary program has four fundamental components that build excellence:

Agency: making choices, taking responsibility, building knowledge, and thinking critically. Children are people.

Arts: self-expression, risk-taking, and appreciation of multiple perspectives. The arts are academic.

Academics: developmental, multisensory, and experiential. Children learn in depth and with joy.

Peace: mutual respect, peaceful conflict resolution, and empathy. We build community.

Walden students can think critically, solve problems creatively, resolve conflicts peacefully, build relationships honestly, and easily hold their own. Our alumni change the world.

This financial aid fundraiser will be a fun night for parents with New Orleans style food, music, games, dancing and auctioning.
