About Our Auction

One year later, recovery and healing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee continues. Progress is evident. The will, strength, and faith of the residents and leaders in this community are deeply inspiring. And those lost are forever remembered.

Like the chairs of the Sky Lift, Gatlinburg’s future is bright. To support local programs that are critical to ensuring that, Gatlinburg Sky Lift is auctioning 29 numbered chairs from the chairlift that was dismantled following the wildfire. These chairs represent an infinite number of memories held by millions of past Sky Lift riders and symbolize special meaning to many in the local community.

Each chair is free of fire damage and guaranteed to be suitable for hanging from a swing frame. Auction profits are to benefit Sevier County Food Ministries and Boys & Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains.

AUCTION ENDS at 4:00PM EST on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2017.

November 28, 2016… wildfires moved into and raged throughout Gatlinburg and surrounding areas, claiming precious lives and igniting an unimaginable degree of devastation to homes and businesses, and to the generations of residents and visitors who built and cherished them.

Facilities and the chairlift terminal on the Sky Lift’s mountaintop deck were destroyed. Installation of a new and upgraded lift system was soon underway and operations resumed on May 26, 2017.

November 28, 2017... the one-year anniversary of the tragic and historic Gatlinburg Wildfire, has been thoughtfully selected as the date on which this auction opens. It is also a time for us to recognize this community’s spirit of being Gatlinburg Tough and Mountain Strong--a family proven to have powerful resilience.

The highly anticipated sale of Sky Lift chairs will support ongoing efforts by Sevier County Food Ministries to help local families and individuals experiencing a food shortage. Developing local youth in ways that allow them to make a lifetime of valuable contributions is vital to Gatlinburg’s bright future. Chair sales will also support the Boys & Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains in its mission to inspire and enable all young people in this area, especially those who need it most. A relatively small amount of the auction’s profit will go toward costs associated with honorary items being presented locally. Nearly 100% of the auction’s profit will be donated to Sevier County Food Ministries and Boys & Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains.
