rare Auction in Support of Every Child Outdoors
Meet Hazel – Hazel is a wonderfully thoughtful eight year-old who loves nature, and loves rare. She will tell you that rare is one of her favourite places. In fact, this place is so special to her that she asked her friends and family to give donations to rare in lieu of gifts for her last birthday. Hazel has attended both March Break and Summer ECO Camps and always looks forward to coming back. Her list of things that she can’t wait to do when she comes to camp include butterfly & frog catching, snowshoeing, birdwatching, hiking & story-telling, and of course, seeing her camp educators. We feel every child should have the opportunity to be part of nature programs that can spark a passion in them like it has for Hazel!
At rare, we take seriously the role we play in fostering a new generation of environmental conservationists, like Hazel and those who support her. Our Chain of Learning model extends research from top scientists to the youngest of learners with the hope that it will help them gain the skills they need to think critically about their environment. We do this through our Every Child Outdoors (ECO) environmental program, which is offered through school programming and March Break and Summer ECO Camps. While here, children partake in hands-on activities where they have fun in nature and explore being a young scientist.
To date, we have seen over 10,000 youth participate in ECO, and now an average of 2,500 per year – but we are not finished yet! With your support, we will foster the next generation of environmental scientists, educators, and outdoor enthusiasts – like Hazel. Proceeds from the auction will go directly towards the healthy development of our youngest citizens, through Every Child Outdoors.
