Fundraiser for Bethany Cocco
An estimated 6,900 people under 40 in the U.S. are diagnosed each year with lung cancer that has no apparent cause. When Bethany became one of them, right before her 35th birthday, she immediately started chemotherapy. She felt okay sometimes and depleted at others, and bravely faced the loss of her signature black curls. She moved into her family home in Cleveland as treatment wore on and even traveled to Vienna, Austria for specialized care. Friends and family across the world rallied to raise over $60K towards the hefty costs of treatment. Midway through chemo there was good news when Bethany’s tumors shrank substantially, but after her last treatment, re-growth was detected. Brave and positive during all the ups and downs, Bethany fought hard, but her illness advanced rapidly, and she passed away on October 10th, 2014.
