About Our Auction

Silent Auction fundraiser in honor of local transplant patient

Kirsten Steele started experiencing constant nausea and vomiting several years ago. This led to multiple hospital visits and misdiagnoses. A few years and many procedures later, she was properly diagnosed with two very rare life-threatening digestive conditions, Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction and Gastroparesis, which have resulted in frequent hospital stays. Now doctors say an intestine transplant is critical for Kristen to be able to make a recovery.

The average intestinal transplant costs over $1 million. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications, which are critical to her survival. Therefore, Kirsten turned to the National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) for assistance for assistance with some of these financial burdens. NFT is a nonprofit organization that helps patients raise funds to pay for transplant-related expenses through their community-based fundraising program.

“I hope this event will be a huge success,” said Samantha Palazolo, NFT fundraising consultant. “It’s wonderful to see so many people who love and care about her. At NFT, we’re dedicated to helping her raise the funds she needs to afford her lifesaving treatment and care.”

About Keep Kirsten Kicking

Keep Kirsten Kicking is an organization to benefit Kirsten Steele. Kirsten has a rare condition known as Gastroparesis (gastro-, "stomach" + -paresis, "partial paralysis"), also known as delayed gastric emptying, is a medical condition consisting of a paresis (partial paralysis) of the stomach, resulting in food remaining in the stomach for an abnormally long time. Normally, the stomach contracts to move food down into the small intestine for additional digestion. The vagus nerve controls these contractions. Gastroparesis (GP) may occur when the vagus nerve is damaged and the muscles of the stomach and intestines do not properly function. Food then moves slowly or stops moving through the digestive tract.
