Children's Aid, Inc.'s Bids for Kids Auction

Children's Aid, Inc. provides assistance to Calvert County children in need. We strive to promote the importance of education and literacy, provide opportunities for physical activity for children and provide information to families on such topics as cyber safety, coping skills, conflict resolution and handling peer pressure.

Currently, we operate several programs. Operation Backpack provides economically disadvantaged children with a backpack filled with new school supplies and an age-appropriate new book. Through our Christmas Cheer Program, we distribute Christmas stockings and new books to local children. In an effort to provide at-risk children with opportunities for physical activity, we provide scholarships for a variety of activities, including football, soccer, basketball and baseball. Our newest initiative, The Great Book Giveaway, is a free family event featuring story time, handouts highlighting the importance of reading aloud to young children, and as the name implies - free books for all participating children.

Additionally, workshops designed with positive youth development in mind are a key component to our program and we hope to start offering a variety of classes and workshops for both students and parents in the near future.

Children's Aid, Inc. is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit located in Calvert County, Maryland. Through our programs, we provide assistance to local children in need by promoting the importance of education and literacy as well as providing children with opportunities for physical activity.

Currently, we operate several programs. The Fresh Start Back to School Event (formerly Operation Backpack) provides children with a new backpack filled with new school supplies. To date, 2000 local students have participated in the program and were able to start the new school year with the supplies they needed.

In an effort to provide at-risk children with opportunities for physical activity, we provide Youth Sports Scholarships for a variety of activities, including football, soccer, basketball, and baseball for elementary school students. The purpose of the Great Book Giveaway Program is twofold: to give books to children who otherwise might not have books (or many books) of their own and to educate parents on the importance of reading aloud to their young children.

The Christmas Cheer Program provides filled Christmas Stockings to youth participants of the local Shop with a Cop program. The Memorial Scholarship Program grants a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior pursuing a degree in Education and a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education toward accredited vocational certification or an Associate's Degree.
