About Our Auction

The Wayside Inn Foundation’s (TWIF) Summer Auction will run from Friday, July 31st at 8:30 am until Friday, August 7th at 9:00 pm. Proceeds will support projects at The Wayside Inn Grist Mill ranging from building and grounds maintenance, preservation, and a multi-media interpretive kiosk that will promote awareness about the mill’s history and the science and technology used at the millworks. Anyone wishing to participate in the bidding will need to create a quick, easy, and free login account at 32auctions.com before bidding.

Special thanks go to Bronze Level sponsor Sudbury Bees, LLC, and Pewter Level sponsors Donna Moy-Bruno, of Results Realty New England, and John Tierney of J.P. Tierney Construction who are making the auction possible along with residents and businesses contributing over 75 items and services to the auction.

Given the pandemic and restrictions on gatherings, TWIF chose an online format for this fundraiser so that people can participate from home. The auction includes many creative twists on traditional donations with thoughtfulness for people’s safety and well-being. “Honestly, we have been amazed and appreciate the support from the community for this fundraiser,” said Nonprofit Director Sally Hild. “We have items that take into consideration social distancing and there are services and gift baskets and gift certificates for things that people can really use during this time at home.” The Wayside Inn Foundation is grateful to all who are considering bids. From dining and food, home and garden, art and craft, and health and beauty options, we hope that everyone will find something special. We thank the community for its support, now more than ever.

Throughout the early months of the pandemic, The Wayside Inn invited the public to use the mill grounds so that people could get a respite from staying indoors. It was wonderful to see the resource utilized by many new visitors, dog walkers, and families enjoying the trails and grassy areas. Now, however, The Grist Mill area could use some care.

As a nonprofit organization, The Wayside Inn Foundation receives no regular funding from the town of Sudbury, the state of Massachusetts, or any federal monies for its operations or property maintenance and instead relies on donations, grants, bequests, and revenue from its hospitality operations to carry out its mission. Your participation in the summer auction will help The Wayside Inn Foundation do some necessary work at The Grist Mill to ensure enjoyment by all. Thank you for bidding!

About The Wayside Inn Foundation

The Wayside Inn owns a varied collection of antique furniture, books, maps, records, letters, personal items, ephemera, and other historic objects dating back to the early 1700s. Some items are on display in and among The Wayside Inn’s historic buildings, but the bulk of the collection sits in storage. Sharing the collections with the public and telling the broad ranging stories of The Wayside Inn is a key goal of The Wayside Inn Foundation’s Strategic Plan. The Foundation now has an opportunity to improve the current conditions of the archives and by doing so will create a vibrant center for active engagement with our holdings. This is an exciting time for The Wayside Inn, but additional funding is critical to getting the job done properly. You can help us by participating in this auction. The Foundation is grateful for your support.

The Wayside Inn is a nonprofit charitable Massachusetts corporation created in 1944 to own, operate, and maintain the Wayside Inn Historic Site, a campus of 9 historic buildings on more than 100 acres. Its mission promotes early American humanities through hospitality, education, and programming, and continues an innkeeping tradition dating back to 1716. The site provides an opportunity for visitors from near and far to gather, engage, and find meaning, relevance, and inspiration through a place-based exploration of history. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the Internal Revenue Code.
