About Support Emmy Foster and IRSF

Our goal is to raise as much money as possible for important therapies, equipment, medications and supplies for Emmy and for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, whose mission is to fund research for treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome while supporting those whose lives are affected by the disease.

Who is Emmy?

Emelia (Emmy) Foster is a five year old girl who lives in Mount Prospect, IL with her parents and two sisters. She was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome in July of 2011 at 2 ½ years old. Rett Syndrome has robbed her of the ability to talk, use her hands and do any physical activity independently. She understands everything but is trapped in her body without a way to express her thoughts. She has now adjusted to her new body and despite all of this, she is a very happy, social little girl who loves music, reading, playing with her sisters and friends at school and going to Kindergarten like any typical child.

What is Rett Syndrome?

Rett Syndrome is a debilitating, neurological/movement disorder caused by a spontaneous gene mutation every baby girl has an equal chance of acquiring. It is characterized by a period of typical development followed by regression, including loss of speech, hand use and most gross motor function. Girls suffer from multiple medical complications such as breathing difficulty, seizures, scoliosis and severe digestive issues.
