SuperRu Super Auction

Thank you for supporting the Super Ru Super Auction; a fabulous collection of amazing lots donated by wonderfully generous people and businesses.

As you may know, our 3 year old little man, Ruairi, has been fighting an extremely rare form of cancer, called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma ALK-, over the last year, through an intensive protocol of chemotherapy and steroids.

We are extremely thankful that Ru’s initial treatment was successful and that he is currently in remission. The risk of relapse for anyone fighting childhood cancer is a reality. Children who have relapsed while fighting ALCL are in unchartered territory, relying on drugs that are unlicensed in children or therapies that are untested.

THIS is why we are raising money; to fund research to ensure children with an ALCL diagnosis or those who relapse have an established protocol to give them the best hope of a long term positive outcome.

So far, through the hard work and dedication of the Super Ru teams and the amazing support we have received, we have raised over £30,000.

We are aiming to channel these funds into specific research and are creating links to look at how best to achieve our goal with the funds raised.

Super Ru is a Special Named Fund at CCLG raising funds for research into anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

Our third and youngest little man, Ruairi, was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALK negative) in July. It was our worst nightmare.

ALCL is responsible for just 1% of childhood cancers and the ALK negative version, is a tiny percentage of these. In the UK, they have not seen this disease before in a child of Ruairi’s age. There is no research. There are no case studies in the UK.

We have relied upon national experts to discuss his case, draw on research from similar cancers, look at trials at home and abroad and decide on the best route forward.

He has now completed a 6 round intensive treatment protocol of chemotherapy drugs and steroids which have him currently in remission. Our road ahead remains uncertain but our gorgeous boy is leading the way through it with his smile as big as ever. He has been so brave, taking everything that is thrown at him and not once complaining.....our Super Ru.

This wonderful village of ours has created the Super Ru charity and has partnered with Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG), enabling fundraising efforts to be channelled into the most relevant and suitable areas of research for Ru’s cancer.

Our hope for this fundraising is to create a pot of funds to support research into ALCL. There are new drugs that have been trialled and licensed in adults in the UK and are currently being trialled in children in the USA. It would be fantastic to be able to support these developments and to improve both outcomes, and the long term effects of children, like Ru, treated for ALCL.

Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group is a charity which provides valuable information to families affected by childhood cancers. But, more importantly to us it provides a forum for professionals from around the world to share best practice and funds vital research to both improve outcomes, and lessen the lasting effects of treatment, for children with cancer.

By bidding on these amazing prizes, you'll be supporting the hugely worthwhile Super Ru charity and helping children across the UK who have faced the diagnosis of ALCL.

This online auction will conclude at a fantastic live event, being held at the Hook Norton Brewery on 17th May at 7:15 pm. We want to thank the Hook Norton Brewery for their incredible support in helping us to put this event on.

We invite you to join us at this event and tickets are on sale now for just £20. You'll feast on a sumptuous deli sharing platter, have two complimentary drinks and be presented with your own auction card and paddle. In addition to the auction, you will be entertained by two incredible live bands.

Please note that bidding on some online lots will be completed at the Live Event whereas others will end when the online event completes on the 15th May. Some lots will only be auctioned at the Live event. This is stated alongside each prize on this site.

If you're unable to join us on the 17th May but you are keen to secure a lot which will end at the Live event, you can leave your highest proxy bid online against your chosen items which will carried into the Live Auction event. You will be notified via the online site at the end of the Live Auction if your online bid has been successful.
