About Our Auction

Dear Remsen St. Mary’s Parish Family,

Who doesn’t like a summer celebration? Once again it is time for our annual Parish Auction. The parish auction was a tremendous success last year raising the largest amount ever in its 36-year history and we are excited that we can do even better this summer!

Please come and join us by celebrating Mass at 8 a.m. thanking God for all the blessings He provides to us each day. We then invite you to spend the rest of the day “raising your tickets” for the Remsen St. Mary’s Church. What better way to show your support for our parish than getting together with other parish family and friends and enjoying fellowship all day! Viewing of the auction items and breakfast will start at 9 a.m. Make sure you find your spot and get comfortable as the live auction will start promptly at 10 a.m. The online (32auctions) auction will close at 11 a.m. All items purchased on the live and online auction can be picked up and paid for following the live auction.

As you have done for so many years, your support will help us make this 37th Annual St. Mary’s Auction a tremendous success. The profits of this parish fundraiser will be used to meet operating expenses and the general maintenance and repair of our beautiful church building.

If you have given in the past, we ask that you continue your tradition. If you haven’t, this year would be a great year to start! Don’t know what to give? Please reach out to Jade Groh at 712-540-7128 or Sarah Garvin at 712-541-3854. We have plenty of great ideas! All donations, auction items, or cash, can be given to Merritt or Jade Groh, Sarah Garvin, or the St. Mary’s business office by Monday, July 25, so they can be listed in the auction flyer. Donated items will be published in the August 7 parish bulletin. As donations are received, they will be posted weekly on the parish’s Facebook page.

We have decided to utilize 32auctions again! The online auction bidding will begin on Sunday, August 7th at 11 a.m. and end at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 14th. Items listed on the online auction site will be selected by the committee. If you have a preference as to your donated item(s) being placed on the online or in-person auction please let us know at the time of donation. If you registered on 32auctions last year, your username and password will still work. You will just have to search for “Remsen St. Mary’s 37th Annual Auction.” If you need assistance in signing up and/or bidding, please contact Jade or Merritt at 712-540-7128 or Sarah at 712-541-3854.

God bless,

About Remsen St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church

The Catholics of the infant town of Remsen first met in 1881 and completed the first St. Mary's Church by the summer of 1885, when it was promptly leveled by a tornado in June of that year. By Christmas of 1885 our hardy ancestors had completed the second St. Mary's Church in time to receive its first resident pastor, Fr. FX Schulte. Fr. Schulte started St. Mary's Schools in the year after his arrival, and brought in the Sisters of St. Francis, who served here for over 110 years, most of them with no pay and no lay assistance.

Our parish and schools came of age as the 20th century dawned. Our high school was phased in starting in 1902. As the Diocese of Sioux City was formed, the present St. Mary's Church was built and dedicated in 1904. All wooden frame buildings in the parish plant were replaced with substantial brick structures in the first decades of the century, and by mid century a state of the art St. Mary's High School was constructed.

St. Mary's Church is a remarkable example of the neo-Gothic style and is historically important in many ways. It has been faithfully and carefully preserved at great cost to our parish, a sacrifice made not only for our families, but for our diocese, our Church, and our nation. We are proud to host tours of our church so please come visit. All who do go away uplifted.
