About Our Auction

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to own a one of a kind quilt made by women from the Varkplaas informal settlement community in South Africa! This piece of art is made of 100% South African cotton. The creativity and quality of these quilts are what makes them so unique and a must have for someone looking for authenticity straight from the communities.

The QU South Africa program works collaboratively with The Tippy Toes Foundation, a public benefits organization outside of Cape Town, South Africa. One of the projects that The Tippy Toes Foundations facilitates is a quilt making project where women from underserved, rural areas learn the skill of quilting. The quilting project has empowered these women to improve their living conditions.

All of the proceeds from this auction will benefit the 2nd Annual Vaatjie Holiday Camp, a week long summer camp in January 2015 for children of the Vaatjie Primary School. Many of the women who are part of the quilting project have children who participate in the camp.
