About The Dahlem Center

The Dahlem Conservancy mission is to provide environmental education and outdoor experiences to the people of south central Michigan. We exist to enrich lives by inspiring passion for nature through experience, education, and stewardship. Our primary role is to operate the John and Mary Dahlem Environmental Education Center. We are an organization with a 35-year history. The Dahlem Conservancy is proud to be celebrating its 11th anniversary as an independent 501(c) (3) nonprofit.

The Dahlem Center sits on 270 acres of natural habitat with 5 miles of hiking trails. Dahlem serves over 20,000 people annually. This includes over 8,000 walk-in visitors, over 8,000 attending public programming, and over 5,000 students participating in programs at Dahlem or in their schools. Access to the Dahlem Center buildings and property/trails is free, and we pride ourselves on being “Jackson’s Nature Place” with very affordable memberships and program fees. Despite challenging economic times, Dahlem has and maintains steady memberships, program attendance, and budget.
