About Our Auction

Jason Cripps was born June 28, 1974 in Kitchener. He loved hockey and began skating and shooting as soon as he could walk. He played house league and in the AAA divisions of the Kitchener Minor Hockey System. Jason was a “team” player and appreciated the support he received from coaches, parents, referees and his fellow players.

On Friday August 5th, 1988 Jason, his brother and father were returning from a boating vacation on Georgian Bay and at 5:30 pm as they turned into their driveway on Belmont Avenue, their car was demolished from behind by a drunk driver. Jason died at Sick Children’s Hospital on August 7th, 1988. He was 14 years old.

In 1994, the Kitchener Minor Hockey League Christmas Tournament was renamed the Jason Cripps Memorial Christmas Tournament. Along with hosting 84 girls' teams and 94 boys' teams across all divisions in the Kitchener Minor Hockey League, the Cripps tournament reminds participants and their families of the tragedy in hopes of preventing impaired driving.

This Auction allows hockey players and their parents to raise the funds providing them with the means to play hockey. The fees are to assist with the cost of participation in tournaments and to purchase extra ice time.
