Brave the Shave

Basin Electric’s St. Baldrick’s campaign started with a spark of inspiration when Ted Cash’s wife, Emily, heard about St. Baldrick’s. She wanted to shave her head, but Ted decided to shave instead. He wondered, though, if this was something Basin Electric would consider?

Ted’s boss, Mike Eggl, loved the idea, but he wanted five willing heads to raise $10,000.

Challenge accepted.

Mission accomplished … well, actually, mission blown away.

What started as a goal to raise $10,000 and shave five heads has exploded into a money-raising, hair-shaving frenzy with national awards for our events and tremendous media attention. In the past five years, participants have raised an astounding $1 million+ and more than 800 people have shaved. Our small event is now a multi-state campaign. Sister organizations, community partners, citizens, and honorees and their families have grown this event into one of St. Baldrick’s top events. We’ve been honored to meet many beautiful kids and become friends with their families. We’ve seen success stories and witnessed heartbreaking news. Each year we honor those beautiful faces.

Brave the Shave is the region’s largest fundraiser on a mission to fight childhood cancer through family support and research. Since 2008, nearly 3,500 volunteers have shaved their heads and raised more than $5 million for kids with cancer.

Brave the Shave believes all kids deserve a healthy, worry-free childhood which is why we are committed to supporting the full spectrum of their cancer journey by providing assistance to the families and supporting critical research. The funds raised for the 2018 campaign will benefit two organizations - the Brave the Shave Family Fund and the Andrew McDonough Be Positive (B+) Foundation.
